Alex Abdoulaev

About Alex

I hold an M.A. in music from the Catholic University of America, and Ph.D. in historical musicology from Boston University. I have 20 years of performance experience, including 15 years of teaching experience at various colleges, conservatories, and performing arts centers. I am currently the pianist and bandleader for the D.C. area jazz band, "The Butler Parks Hot Serenaders," and the artistic director of the cabaret ensemble "Ghosts of Weimar."

I teach classical and jazz piano at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Additionally, I also provide instruction in music theory, arranging, and composition at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. I prefer to incorporate theory and analysis into my teaching style, and like to assign repertoire from classical stand-bys to less conventional, contemporary pieces.
